The Brazilian Society of Genetics (SBG) invites South American geneticists or those who have defended their theses in South America and have obtained their doctor’s degree no more than five years prior to the beginning of 2018 International Congress of Genetics to take part in the 2018 Young Geneticist Award, a unique opportunity to achieve recognition and leave their mark in the scientific community. The first-place winner will be awarded a US$1,000 (one thousand dollars) cash prize. The prize will be announced during the 2018 International Congress of Genetics closing ceremony. Winners who are not present at the ceremony will be disqualified, with the prize being given to the work ranked next. The remaining qualified works will be given a merit certificate.
REGISTRATION: entries for the 2018 Young Geneticist Award are free of charge, and will be accepted by June 30th, 2018. It is open to new Ph.D. geneticists, who have defended their theses no more than five years prior to the beginning of the 2018 International Congress of Genetics. The candidate must be enrolled in that Congress and shall submit only one paper. The award registration form, available in the link https://goo.gl/forms/cgRGBjpY0ZiMzLNu1, must be completed and sent to [email protected] with a copy to [email protected], along with the paper, curriculum vitae, and the declaration from the university’s post-graduation committee, informing the date of thesis defense and the title received. The documents submitted will not be returned.
PAPER: The text must be written in English and have a maximum of 10 pages (including tables and figures) formatted in Arial font, size 12, 1.5 spacing between lines, A4 paper size, 2 cm margins (left, right, top and bottom) in Microsoft Word format. Bibliographic references must follow the rules of the GENETICS AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY journal. Papers not in compliance with these guidelines will be automatically disregarded with no previous notice to the entrant.
PRESENTATION AND SELECTION: The Scientific Committee designated by SBG Board of Directors will select five papers. The selected papers shall be exhibited as posters in English during the 2018 International Congress of Genetics, at a place to be designated by the Organizing Committee. The authors will be invited to publicly present their papers orally in a session of the 2018 International Congress of Genetics. The presentation must be delivered (in Portuguese or English, with English slides) in 20 minutes before a three-member Panel of Examiners, chosen by the Brazilian Society of Genetics (SBG) Board. No appeals will be accepted regarding the decisions of the Selection Committee and Panel of Examiners.
PRESCRIPTION TO THE PRIZE RIGHTS: In case the prize is not requested within 1 year from the award date, which will take place during 2018 International Congress of Genetics, the winner will waive their right to it.
